SEU was founded in 1899 by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, and our mission today reflects the values they gave us – a moral grounding in our Catholic heritage; an emphasis on critical inquiry in the pursuit of knowledge; and a commitment to civic responsibility and social justice.
From those origins, SEU has built a legacy of providing students with an educational foundation for lives of ethical leadership in a wide range of careers and walks of life. Today, students of all ages and backgrounds come to SEU from 40 countries around the globe for the University's challenging academics, supportive learning environment, and close-knit community.
SEU is a multifaceted university with programs for students of diverse ages and backgrounds. Students have the following options in selecting a program of study that best meets their needs:

Evening, weekend and online master's and doctoral programs are designed to help students advance in high-demand fields and professions.
Professional Certificate/Certification Programs
SEU offers programs leading to certification in school counseling, education, sports nutrition and wellness, and certificates in management and ministry.
Online Programs
The University offers fully online graduate degrees in Justice Administration & Public Service and Nutrition. Many other programs offer hybrid and online courses as part of a degree or certificate.

Accreditation
The University was first incorporated under New Jersey State laws on May 19, 1900, and the first baccalaureate degrees were granted on June 18, 1903. In 1905 the New York State Board of Regents extended to Saint Elizabeth University a formal certificate of registration of its degrees, confirming earlier approval of its programs stated in letters of 1899 and 1901.
In 1917, the Association of American Universities placed Saint Elizabeth University in its Approved List of Colleges and Universities, 96 in all, 17 for women, whose graduates were eligible for admission to the graduate schools of the 24 leading universities comprising the membership of the Association. The University was included also in the first published list of accredited colleges issued by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in 1921, and it has continuously maintained such accreditation. The Office of the President maintains copies of all accreditation and approvals. An appointment with that office may be made to review these documents.
Federal Compliance
Saint Elizabeth University does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, color, religion, disability, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or national origin, in the administration of its admissions, educational policies, scholarship and loan programs or other University policies, including employment.
Saint Elizabeth University complies with Title VI – Civil Rights Act of 1964; Title IX, Education Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Saint Elizabeth University, in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act makes information available concerning campus security procedures and campus crime statistics and in the following offices: Admission; Business; Vice President for Student Life; Financial Aid; Registrar.
In accordance with the Student Right-To-Know and Campus Security Act, the University reports the graduation rate of full-time, first-time first-year students who entered in Fall 1996 and subsequent years to all current students by personalized email and to prospective students who request the information. The report is available in the Admission office, Financial Aid office, and in the Registrar's office.
The University has adopted a policy to comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 which protects the privacy of educational records, establishes the right of students to inspect and review their educational records, and provides guidelines for the correction of that record. The University informs students of their rights under FERPA including the right to prevent disclosure of personally identifiable information.
The University also adheres to the requirements of the Solomon-Pombo Amendment, which allows the United States Military access to college campuses for recruitment. This amendment also allows the military recruiters to student directory information without the student's prior approval. Students may obtain a Request to Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information Form from the Registrar's Office. Failure to request the withholding of directory information indicates approval for disclosure.
