This course is open to undergraduate and graduate students. The purpose of the course is to introduce students to the applications of general linguistic theory to the specific field of language acquisition. The course analyzes second language acquisition (SLA) theory as well as the history of SLA. It examines integrationist and cognitive approaches to SLA and explores the role of learner characteristics in SLA. Methods for teaching and learning second languages will be considered. This course is required for Certification in World Languages. Undergraduates take this course concurrently with Ed 465. (This course replaces the undergraduate course, Ed 466A.)
