PSY651 Substance Abuse Counseling

This course is a survey of counseling interventionmodelswith substance-abusing clients including treatment approachesand philosophies, individual,group, family, therapeutic communities,Alcoholics Anonymous, residential treatment,outpatientapproaches and comparative theories. The course is designedto assist students in identifying and becoming familiar withcurrent counseling approaches and interventionmodels inchemical dependency treatment; to assist the development of thecounselor to distinguish between approaches, and to determinetreatment selections for various case situations. Prerequisite: PSY633.
