ED467 Student Teaching

Clinical Practice is an opportunity for qualified students to devote a full semester to a full-time clinical practice teaching experience in an approved school. Students seeking an endorsement in teaching students with disabilities will spend time in an Early Childhood,or Elementary, or Middle School Math or Science, Secondary inclusive settings. Those students not seeking an endorsement in Special Education will be placed in an Early Childhood or Elementary, or Elementary/Middle School Math or Science, or Secondary setting (480 to 525 hours of clinical practice total). Students spend time observing, participating, and teaching under the direction of an effective or highly effective cooperating teacher, as well as a clinical supervisor from CSE. CSE clinical supervisors will visit clinical interns on a bi-weekly basis in both settings in compliance with the NJDOE requirements. Conferences, both group and individual, are held on campus or in school settings during the clinical practice. All candidates who intend to complete clinical practice must obtain written clearance from their Education Program advisors and their liberal arts major advisors before being permitted to participate. Advisors’ approvals indicate that clinical interns have completed all courses and incomplete grades by the end of the semester directly preceding clinical practice. Clinical interns are responsible for their own transportation to their clinical practice setting. Prerequisite: Passing score on identified PRAXIS exam(s). Completion of all course requirements in all education programs, liberal arts majors and general education liberal arts core must occur before the full-time clinical practice semester. Student Teachers need to provide their own transportation to field settings.
