MUS105 Create Music in the 21st Century

This is a wide-ranging introduction to music about how to listen to, think about, write and make music using traditional, digital and experimental techniques, instruments, objects and means. With an emphasis on creative and innovative thinking, this course will have applications for all other disciplines in terms of promoting new ways of thinking and doing. Students will experiment by listening to and learning about traditional world instruments and music and then by exploring newer techniques, instruments and compositional styles to generate their own creative sounds and compositions through traditional and experimental means. In addition, by interacting with practicing musicians and composers, watching clips about world innovators and doing research, students will futher build their own creative and innovative abilities. Open to all students; intro requirement for all music minors.
