MUS125 Learning to Listen to Music

As an introduction to listening to all types of music, students learn how to follow a motif or theme, recognize formal structure, hear basic harmonic structure, listen for instrumentation, and recognize historical styles (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, Twentieth Century, etc.). CDs, videos and DVDs help introduce these concepts. Attendance at a musical performance or concert is required; students will participate in a field trip to New York City. Satisfies Cluster 1 General Education requirement.
