NURS 204 Nursing Care Provider I – Fundamentals of Nursing 6 credits (3, 2, 1)This course is designed to provide student nurses with the basic knowledge necessary for registered nurse practice. Emphasis is placed on the nursing process, evidence-based practice and the introduction of critical thinking necessary for practice. Integrated throughout the course are concepts and issues that relate to nursing practice: the nurse-patient relationship, individual-centered care, effective communication, self-care and wellness, culture, mobility, teaching, learning, and basic skills learned in the lab with a simulator. Students are later introduced into the first clinical experience in a rehabilitation center or long-term care center with adult and/or geriatric patients. • Pre-requisites: BIO 121, BIO 123. CHEM 121, PSY 200, NURS 101, NURS 201 • Pre- Co-requisites: BIO 209, BIO 209L, BIO 301, MATH 119• Co-requisite: NURS202, NURS 203 GPA 2.3.• 15 week course, 3 hours theory, 3 hours lab, 3 hours of clinical per week
