IS605 Professional Practice in Science Teaching

This culminating course provides opportunities for students to apply the integrated science knowledge acquired in prior coursework with pedagogical knowledge and philosophy of teaching science. The course consists of two components: in-class and on-line mentoring in the development and teaching a standards-based integrated science unit. Students will receive two school-based visits from a science education mentor who will provide guidance on teaching the unit. Students will also participate in an ongoing cyber-professional learning community with peers and mentors to guide them in the teaching of the unit and the continuing implementation of the content and pedagogy learned in program courses (1 credit, on-line and in class).
