ED469 Clinical Practice II

Clinical practice is an opportunity for qualified students to devote an entire semester to a full-time clinical practice teaching experience in an approved school. Students will spend a total of 525 hours of clinical practice in either an Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School Math or Science, or Secondary classroom setting. Those students seeking an additional endorsement in Special Education will be placed in either an Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School Math or Science, or Secondary inclusion classroom for 525 hours of clinical practice. Students spend time observing, participating, and teaching under the direction of an effective or highly effective cooperating teacher, as well as a clinical supervisor. Clinical supervisors will visit clinical interns on a bi-weekly basis in compliance with the NJDOE requirements. Conferences, both group and individual, are held on campus and in school settings during clinical practice. All candidates who intend to complete clinical practice must obtain written clearance from their Education Program advisors and their liberal arts major advisors before being permitted to participate. Advisors' approvals indicate that clinical interns have completed all courses and incomplete grades by the end of the semester directly preceding clinical practice. Clinical interns are responsible for their own transportation to their clinical practice setting. Pre-requisites: Passing scores on identified Praxis exams and a min. 3.0 GPA. Completion of all course requirements in education major/minor, liberal arts major/minor, and general education must occur before the full-time clinical practice semester. The Director of Field Placement will distribute a Disposition Survey to the Clinical Intern and the Cooperating Teacher. The completion of the Disposition Survey is a mandatory requirement of the course. Submission of the surveys will be to the Director of Field Placement.
