PSY407 Psychology of Racism
This course explores new definitions of race and ethnicity such as described in the Racial Iceberg Theory put forward in Marcus & Moya. Using interdisciplinary essays, we will survey how the history of the United States influences the concept of race in 2018. Careful attention will be paid at the beginning of the course to establish a safe classroom environment where people speak from their own experience. Emphasis will be placed on the distinction between "safe" versus "comfortable" discussions of race. This course can be used as either a Breadth III 400 level elective or a free elective for psychology majors and minors. Prerequisites: Junior status or permission from the instructor
