AMST310 Independent Study
This course provides the student with two options. For some students, the Independent Study consists of a carefully supervised reading and research project, appropriate for the American Studies major. Typically, this option will be taken by American Studies students enrolled in CSE’s Honors Program. The second option enables students to obtain academic credits for an appropriate educational experience beyond the CSE campus. Such off-campus academic experiences vary and are done in accord with the individual student’s interests, motivation, and aspirations. Typical experiences consist of extended field trips, academic workshops, projects, or other co-curricular activities. Students will submit a required paper reflecting on what their off-campus academic experience has taught them about American life, society, values, and/or culture. All such off-campus academic experiences must be approved in advance by the appropriate Area Chairperson . Only this type of Independent Study, involving an approved off-campus academic experience, can be substituted for the Internship in the American Studies major program. Prerequisites: AMST 101 -and junior status Can be taken for 0 - 4 credits.
