MPH697 Internship and Culminating Requirement
Students will complete an internship at an approved field placement site with supervision provided by both a faculty supervisor and a qualified on-site supervisor. A culminating project will be submitted at the end of the internship and may be a Case Study, Program Evaluation, or other approved project that synthesizes the student’s curricular and practicum learning experiences. Students are expected to demonstrate in their placement site the skills required of public health professionals such as expertise in health education and intervention needs assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, students are expected to demonstrate that they are professional, ethical and culturally competent in their behavior and in interactions with fellow staff and the community served by the placement agency. Students will complete a minimum of 180 hours that combines both on- and off-site work. Students will design, with the assistance of the faculty supervisor, an appropriate project that will culminate in a product (case study, portfolio, paper, etc.) which will be evaluated to assess the degree to which students have met the program objectives. In addition to this assessment of student competence, the program will collect faculty and on-site supervisor evaluations of student performance viz a viz expected competencies.
