PA623 Patient Evaluation and Principles of Patient Education

The third course in a series designed to enable the student to effectively and respectfully evaluate patients, focuses on the physical examination techniques and diagnostic procedures related to the abdomen, musculoskeletal system, nervous system, male and female genitalia, and mental status. The student learns how to perform a physical examination and clinical procedures on patients in a variety of settings and situations. Strategies for interacting with diverse populations and patients across the lifespan are explored.Patient education principles as well as the concepts of health promotion and disease prevention are defined and discussed, and considered within the context of social responsibility. Lecture with small group laboratory instruction and practice are utilized as well as encounters with patients in the clinical setting.
