PSY629 Social Emotional Learning and Educational Leadership
Since the goal of educators is to serve the students by fostering the development of academic, intellectual, emotional and social success, it is imperative that the school leader supports teachers in this effort and creates and maintains the type of school environment that fosters student success and cultural awareness. Research has shown that learning and work productivity are enhanced in environments that are safe, caring and supportive. In this course, students will explore how this environment is created in schools so that they can apply this learning to their leadership practice. Based on the theories of emotional intelligence, group dynamics and leadership, participants will develop skills in self-awareness, empathy, effective communication, team building, decision-making and conflict management.
