AHS305 Foundations of Public Health

This course provides a survey of the areas of focus in the public health profession including biostatistics and epidemiology; study of the factors that influence individual, family and community health; and health policy and advocacy. Particular focus is on health disparities among segments of the US and global populations. Students will learn the professional ethics and standards of professional behavior required of the public health professional. Students will begin the process of developing cultural competency through exploration of cultures, the ethics of cultural competence, and interpersonal skills. Prerequisite: junior or senior status
