ENG115 English Composition II

This course is the second part of the first-year writing program. In addition to building on the focused, clear writing and critical reading skills practiced in ENG111, the purpose of this course is to enhance students’ ability to read and think critically, to research and evaluate evidence competently, and to write clearly. It focuses on helping students develop the skills needed to approach a body of material, to analyze it, and to explicate it. Students will learn and use research, reasoning and organizational skills necessary to produce effective academic and research writing. Students will write two interpretive, evaluative, analytical essays that include quotes and paraphrases from an outside source, and an appropriately documented six to seven-page research paper. They will also analyze and respond to assigned texts that will strengthen critical reading skills gained in ENG111. 4 credits. Required for all students unless exempt through transfer credits.Earning a grade of C or higher is required to meet General Education and University requirements. Prerequisite: Successful completion of ENG111 with a grade of C or higher, or exemption from ENG111 based on Honors placement or placement testing score.MEETS GEN. ED. OUTCOME 1
