SW305 Social Welfare Policies, Programs & Issues
''This course is intended to help students understand the social, historical, political andeconomic factors that have influenced United States social welfare policy and programsfrom the Colonial era through today. The course will consider the values expressed insocial policies, analyze the impact of social programs, consider policies related to environmental justice, and assess strategies for proposing change to promote social justice. Students will learn how seminal events inAmerica’s history, including the Civil War, the Great Depression, and the 1960s CivilRights movement, led to the development of many of the social welfare programs thatstill exist today. Special attention will be given to historically oppressed populations,including racial minorities, women, the disabled, LGBTQ+, and immigrants.''
