HA340 Risk Communication in Health Systems

This course examines the processes through which organizations handle and disseminate information to the public during emergencies. There is a specific emphasis on risk and crisis communication to protect public health and reduce organizational liability. Students will achieve a thorough understanding of risk assessment and crisis communication methodologies. Topics covered include analysis and practical implementation of current communication theories associated with managing information in health services organization; interactions with media representatives in order to effectively represent their organization and provide information to the public; identification and development of the components of an effective crisis communication response.
