BSN
The College of Saint Elizabeth's new four-year, pre-licensure BSN program* is on track to launch in fall 2019. In support of the expanded programming, CSE nursing students will experience a state-of-the-art clinical skills and diagnostics center which will include high fidelity simulation, 14 examination bays, and a patient simulation room with an adjacent faculty observation area.
The incoming 2018 undergraduate cohort will apply to be admitted to the nursing major at the end of their first year in spring, 2019.
* The new program has been approved and granted provisional accreditation by the New Jersey Board of Nursing. Full accreditation is only granted once the first cohort of students complete the degree and meet the State Board's criterion for NCLEX licensure passing rate.
Mission and Values
In support of the mission and core values of CSE, the Nursing Program is committed to the education of nurses to become leaders prepared through scholarship and critical inquiry to offer the highest quality nursing care. The Nursing Program fosters the development of leadership in a spirit of service and social responsibility to others.
The faculty in the Nursing Program believe that the professional nurse has three major leadership roles: client advocate, change agent, and advocate for the profession. Our current nursing students are prepared for these professional roles, at both the undergraduate and graduate level, through a curriculum with a strong multi-disciplinary approach.
The Nursing Program prepares students for continued lifelong learning and leadership. Our commitment to the practice of nursing is reflected in the curriculum with emphasis on critical thinking and communication skills, ethical decision-making, and a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice.
The nursing curriculum prepares students to promote, maintain and restore health to patients in a variety of settings. The campus' proximity to several urban centers affords students the opportunity to work with under-served populations and experience, first-hand, the need for health equity and the challenges for population-based wellness within these communities.
Admission
Students apply to major in the pre-licensure baccalaureate nursing program at the end of the spring semester of the freshman year. The requirements for admission to the four-year BSN program include:
- Completed application for the nursing program;
- A one-page personal statement of the student's motivation for becoming a nurse;
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75;
- A minimum grade of C+ in all prerequisite courses required for the nursing major;
- Repetition of any single prerequisite course required for the major cannot be attempted more than once;
- No more than two prerequisite courses required for the nursing major may be repeated.
Required Clinical Hours
In addition to coursework, nursing students will complete requisite hours of clinical training in the College's on-site nursing skills laboratory and at off-site medical centers, community agencies and several other clinical sites to meet the course objectives.
The RN to BSN Nursing Program is accredited by the New Jersey Board of Nursing (124 Halsey Street, Newark, NJ 07102 | 973-504-6430) and both the RN to BSN and the MSN programs are accredited through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (3343 Peachtree Road, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326, 404-975-5000).
Upon approval of a new four-year BSN program, the New Jersey Board of Nursing grants provisional accreditation for the program. Full accreditation from the Board is only granted after the first cohort of students complete the program and achieves the requisite passing rate on the NCLEX licensure exam.
