Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science Allied Health Sciences Program is designed to prepare students for a career in healthcare, an industry that is experiencing increasing demand for clinical and non-clinical professionals. The focus of the program is on building skills needed for employment in a variety of healthcare settings including provider organizations, as well as research, government and an array of supporting industries. There are concentrations in Clinical Health Sciences, Health Administration, and Public Health.
Allied health professionals and health administrators make decisions every day that help healthcare systems operate efficiently and serve businesses and people in the community. They are responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating health services and work closely with all types of healthcare professionals to positively impact patient care and healthcare operations. Not only is working in healthcare rewarding, but it is one of the largest and fastest-growing industries in the country.
Become a leader in healthcare by earning a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Sciences. We also offer a Master of Science in Health Administration. Our programs in Allied Health Sciences and Health Administration will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to develop your career in all types of healthcare organizations such as hospitals, physician offices, pharmaceutical businesses, and long-term care facilities.
According to U.S. Department of Labor projections, employment of medical and health services managers is expected to grow by 22 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. As the large baby-boom population ages and people remain active later in life, the healthcare industry as a whole will see an increase in the demand for services. Health professionals will be in demand to work with patients, work in public health, organize and manage medical information, and manage healthcare staff in all areas of the healthcare industry.
The program in Allied Health Sciences builds on a strong base of general education courses and includes in-depth perspectives in health and healthcare delivery. Students gain an understanding of health issues, learn to utilize management, organizational and communication skills in healthcare positions, interpret health care and disease related research and use this information to change and improve health care.
Mission
In keeping with the mission, vision and values of Saint Elizabeth University, the mission of the Allied Health Sciences Program is to help meet the increasing demand for clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals.
The Allied Health Sciences Program strives to recruit, educate and graduate students prepared to assume vital roles due to the evolving needs associated with the expansion of the healthcare industry and serve the mission of the University by being responsible leaders and advocates for social justice within healthcare.
Unique Elements of the Program
- Students learn to utilize management, organizational, communication, and data analysis skills in the healthcare industry
- Students learn to interpret health care and disease-related research and apply this skill in population health management
- Students will choose one of three concentrations: Clinical Health Sciences, Health Administration, or Public Health
- Students benefit from required field experience through internship/capstone or other experiential learning
Outcomes
- Act as motivated members of the healthcare profession dedicated to assessing and addressing the health care needs of society and improving health and wellness for individuals, groups and populations.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills and values related to missions, management and outcomes of complex health care organizations and delivery systems.
- Effectively communicate verbally, visually, electronically and in written forms to encompass all levels of communication from mass media communication levels to the individual interpersonal communication levels.
- Apply cross-cultural and global perspectives in various aspects of health care as appropriate.
- Synthesize and apply critical decision-making skills to health-related problems, using problem solving skills and ethical guidelines.
Program Graduates
The Program is designed to help meet a growing need for healthcare personnel. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in healthcare is expected to grow 18% from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. Additionally, healthcare is projected to add 2.3 million new jobs to the economy by 2026; more jobs than any other occupation groups in this country.
Students graduating from the Allied Health Sciences program will be prepared for entry level positions in a variety of health care and health related areas such as hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, doctor's offices, insurance companies, local, county and federal health care agencies, corporate and commercial settings. Graduates are also prepared for a variety of graduate programs.

Transfer Students
Students may transfer in up to 90 credits. Graduation requirement is 120 credits. Students may be over the "120" credit if they transfer in the complete allowance of 90 credits.
If the student has earned an A.A.S. degree from an institution that has an articulation agreement with SEU, they will generally be required to take SEU200 and Element III for their general education requirements. All transfer students will be assessed individually by the Admissions Office for correct placement in General Education Requirements.
Students transferring from a school without a current SEU articulation agreement will be evaluated on an individual basis for transfer credit acceptance.
Students transferring into SEU with an Associate's Degree (A.S.) will be required to take Element III of the University's General Education program.
