Program Overview

The Saint Elizabeth University (SEU) B.S. in Health Administration Program is designed to prepare students for a career in health care, an industry that is experiencing increasing demand for clinical and non-clinical professionals. The focus of the program is to build the skills needed for employment in a variety of healthcare settings including provider organizations, as well as research, government, and an array of supporting industries.

Health administrators and professionals make decisions every day that help health care systems operate efficiently and serve businesses and people in the community. They are responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating health services and work closely with all types of health care professionals to positively impact patient care and health care operations. Not only is working in health care rewarding, but it is one of the largest and fastest-growing industries in the country.

Our program will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to develop your career in all types of health care organizations, such as hospitals, physician offices, pharmaceutical businesses, and long-term care facilities.

According to U.S. Department of Labor projections:

  • Employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 29% from 2023 to 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations.
  • About 61,400 openings for medical and health services managers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or who exit the labor force, such as to retire.

The B.S. in Health Administration Program builds on a strong base of general education courses and includes in-depth perspectives in health and health care delivery. Students gain an understanding of health issues; learn to utilize management, organizational, and communication skills in health care positions; interpret health care related research, and use this information to change and improve health care.

Mission

In keeping with the mission, vision, and values of SEU, the mission of the B.S. in Health Administration Program is to help meet the increasing demand for health care professionals.

The program strives to recruit, educate, and graduate students prepared to assume vital roles due to the evolving needs associated with the expansion of the health care industry and serve the mission of the University by being responsible leaders and advocates for social justice within health care.

Unique Elements of the Program

  • Students learn to utilize management, organizational, communication, and data analysis skills in the health care industry.
  • Students learn to interpret health care and disease-related research and apply this skill in population health management.
  • Students benefit from required field experience through internship/capstone or other experiential learning.
  • Students enrolled in small classes receive individual 
    attention from highly credentialed faculty on real-world applications of academic concepts.
  • Students can apply for the combined degree option for SEU undergraduates, resulting in early matriculation and financial savings into graduate courses and programs.

Outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and values related to the missions, management, business principles, and outcomes of complex health care organizations and delivery systems, such as hospitals, ambulatory care networks, long-term care, and insurance companies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the various components of the U.S. healthcare system and its stakeholders including the comprehensive regulatory structure, standards, and practices.
  • Demonstrate skill in analyzing quantitative (including financial) and qualitative data for effective management and administration in the healthcare industry. 
  • Learn to develop strategic plans for healthcare organizations.
  • Learn to effectively communicate and collaborate within healthcare teams. 
  • Apply decision-making skills to healthcare-related problems, using problem-solving skills and following ethical guidelines

Program Graduates

The program is designed to help meet a growing need for health care personnel. Employment in health care occupations is projected to grow 29% from 2023 to 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations, adding about 2.6 million new jobs. Health care occupations are projected to add more jobs than any of the other occupational groups. Graduates from the Health Administration program will be prepared for entry level positions in a variety of health care and health-related areas, such as hospitals; nursing homes; assisted living facilities; doctor's offices; insurance companies; local, county, and federal health care agencies; and corporate and commercial settings. Graduates are also prepared for a variety of graduate programs.

Transfer Students

Students may transfer in up to 90 credits. The graduation requirement is 120 credits. Students may be over the "120" credit if they transfer in the complete allowance of 90 credits.

If the student has earned an Associate of Applied Science from an institution, transfer credits will be assessed on an individual basis to determine what SEU General Education Requirements are needed. Students transferring into SEU with an Associate of Science or Arts will be required to take REL299 of the University's General Education Program.
