Sport Management and Marketing
Mission
The mission of the Sport Management and Marketing Program is to prepare students for diverse career opportunities in sport management and marketing organizations at the professional, corporate, amateur, college and high school levels.
The Program seeks to promote a learning environment that expands students' ability to effectively address sport business and management issues using critical thinking, creative problem solving, and innovative decision-making.
With a strong liberal arts foundation, our graduates are prepared for management and marketing roles while having developed into competent, ethical and responsible sport management professionals.
Unique Elements of the Program
- Students enrolled in small classes receive individual attention from highly credentialed faculty on real-world applications of academic concepts.
- Students benefit from required internships, capstones and other experiential learning.
- Students can apply for the combined degree option for SEU undergraduates, resulting in early matriculation into graduate courses and programs.
- Students can also pair the B.S. in Sport Management and Marketing coursework with a minor in various liberal arts areas, including Communication, Psychology, and Global Studies.
Goals
- Provide knowledge to effectively operate in domestic and global business/sport management and marketing environments.
- Create an environment for students to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to apply ethics in decision making.
- Provide a learning environment that expands the students' ability to effectively address sport business issues using critical thinking, creative problem solving, and innovative decision-making.
- Develop students' organizational, teamwork, managerial and leadership competencies.
- Increase students' proficiency in written and verbal business communication skills.
- Promote an understanding of the social responsibilities of sport organizations and businesses.
- Instill awareness and understanding of the diverse cultures in the various organizational environments, sport, business, and academia.
Student Learning Outcomes
As a result of completing the program students will:
- Exhibit foundational knowledge in Sport Management and Marketing including management, marketing, financial, economic, legal and ethical components by demonstrating an understanding of the concepts and theories.
- Demonstrate knowledge in accounting, economics, management, marketing, finance, law, research and reporting.
- Identify and explain the sport marketing mix and consumer behavior.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing using applicable technology.
- Apply legal and ethical principles in decision making.
- Demonstrate critical and creative problem solving in sport management and marketing business scenarios.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the social responsibilities in various organizations – sport, business, and academia.
- Collaboratively work as a leader or as a team member.
- Plan, organize, staff, market, and implement an athletic event.
- Respectfully interact with people in diverse cultures.
