Capstone Requirement
For the capstone experience, an exam
is given in two parts on two separate
dates. The first day of
the exam includes objective questions that consist of multiple choice questions covering
Fundamentals of Biology I and II, Microbiology and Cell Biology. In addition, a separate
exam section covers basic solution calculations. The second day consists of essay questions
in upper level elective courses specific to the B.S. program.
Sufficient Progress in the Major
- Students must have passed BIO111 and BIO113 with a grade of C+ or better in order to
continue as a biology major in their sophomore year.
- Students must pass, with a grade of C or better, BIO209, BIO251, CHEM151, CHEM153 (and
all of their respective labs), MATH151 and MATH153 or MATH119 prior to the start of fall
semester of the junior year to continue as a biology major.
- Students in the B.A. biology degree program must have passed all of the above courses as
well as BIO303 and at least one upper-level biology elective – all with a grade of C or better
– prior to the start of the fall semester of the senior year to continue as a biology major.
- In addition, students in the B.S. biology degree program must have passed all of the above
courses as well as BIO303, CHEM211 and CHEM213 and at least one upper-level biology
elective – all with a grade of C or better – prior to the start of the fall semester of the senior
year to continue as a biology major.
